1. ICE- Ice is the most potent anti-inflammatory on the planet

Ice has NO side effects.

Apply ice to your dog’s knee/stifle for 10-20 minutes. You can use a store bought gel pack, you can make your own by freezing 2 parts H2O : 1 part karo syrup or alcohol in a strong ziplock baggie, or you can freeze H2O in a dixie cup and rub it on your dog.

Repeat 2-4 times daily


  1. LEASH WALK ONLY TO POTTY- It is imperative that you strictly limit your dog’s exercise when they have a ACL/Cruciate Ligament Injury. The injured joint is unstable and exercise increases pain and arthritic changes.


  1. COLLAGEN SUPPLEMENTATION- Collagen contains amino acids that are necessary for building and healing ligaments, tendons and joints.  Muscle meat and dog kibble does NOT contain necessary collagen.



  1. WEIGHT LOSS- Your dog’s body weight plays a huge part in the injury and health of the ACL/Cruciate ligament. Lean animals and people live longer and have healthier joints.

You can start by only giving veggie treats- raw carrots, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts for a few ideas. Commercial treats have significant calories.

A point worth making-dogs count their treats, they don’t weight them. If you need to give a biscuit. Break it into pieces.

Kibble dog food is very high in carbohydrate calories whether it is grain free or not. Most kibble is made with either white potatoes, pea flour, rice, or corn.
